Regensburg - In the retirement home of the Deutschordenshaus St. Aegid, eleven residents died with or from an infection with the coronavirus * in October.

Regensburg: Was the risk of infection underestimated?

As the

Mittelbayerische Zeitung

reports, the first case became known on October 11th.

A fully vaccinated resident had died with or from Covid-19, and others had become infected.

It was possible to limit the outbreak to a few people, the home management said at the time - the infected were isolated.

However, this turned out to be a mistake.

It is known that it can lead to a fatal outcome despite a full vaccination against the coronavirus *.

The first vaccinations were offered at the beginning of 2021.

Since then, 162 people have died of Covid-19 in the city and district of Regensburg.

According to the health department, 15 of them were completely vaccinated.

Regensburg: Vaccination rate for over 80-year-olds is particularly high

The likelihood of a severe or fatal corona course increases with age. Pre-existing illnesses play a role that should not be underestimated. The vaccination rates for people over 80 in Regensburg are therefore particularly high. 8000 citizens of this age live in the city, 6500 of them have already received the second spade. "You pull must of course be considered that more than 80-year-old have a higher probability of dying," said Richard Leberle, head of Impfzentrums, after the first October death in German Order house opposite the

Mittelbayerischen

.

Corona outbreaks also occur again and again in other retirement homes in the region.

The BRK district association revealed to the

MZ

that an unvaccinated employee fell ill with Covid-19 in a home in Eggmühl.

In Neutraubling, a quick test on a double-vaccinated cleaner gave positive results.

"The BRK does not report large-scale corona outbreaks or Covid deaths for any of its eight houses in Eastern Bavaria," summarizes spokesman Frank Betthausen.

Regensburg: Homes rely on 3G for visitors and booster vaccinations for residents

The situation looks even better at the Caritas Association. According to spokesman Harry Landauer, there is not a single corona case in Regensburg and in the district. All employees have been tested regularly since last week - visitors have to adhere to the 3G rule. The BRK has also introduced the 3G rule for visitors in its eight buildings. "We attach great importance to regular tests of the employees," says district manager Mario Drexler of the

Middle Bavaria

. Since this week, the vaccinated and recovered employees have also been tested at least twice a week, employees without vaccination every day before they start work.

Vaccination breakthroughs are also increasing due to the increased corona incidences.

Elderly people are particularly affected, whose immune system is no longer working as well or who were fully vaccinated at the beginning of the year.

For them, a booster vaccination * is the safest protection against infection.

The booster vaccinations are just starting in the Teutonic Order House of St. Aegid.
