Because he drove through a traffic light when it was red, a 20-year-old firefighter in Garching caused an accident with several vehicles involved.

One person was injured.

Garching

- According to the police report, the 20-year-old from the Munich district drove his VW along Ludwig-Prandtl-Straße in the direction of Freisinger Landstraße.

According to initial findings, following an alarm, he was on the way to his responsible fire station and had therefore attached the magnetic sign “Fire brigade in action” to his car.

At the intersection with Freisinger Landstrasse, he wanted to cross it straight ahead.

At the same time, a 45-year-old from the Freising district was driving a Passat down the Freisinger Landstrasse in the direction of Garching and wanted to cross it straight ahead at the intersection with Ludwig-Prandtl-Strasse.

According to the current state of the investigation, he had a green light at the traffic light.

Collision with other vehicles after a collision

There were also three vehicles on the other side of the intersection, a VW from a 66-year-old, an Opel from a 30-year-old and a van from a 43-year-old who wanted to turn left into Ludwig-Prandtl-Straße towards the A9.

Because of the red light that applies to them, all three vehicles were waiting.

After the 20-year-old drove into the intersection area with the VW despite the red light that applied to him, there was a collision with the 45-year-old Passat driver.

As a result, his vehicle was deflected to the left and crashed into the three waiting vehicles in oncoming traffic.

30,000 euros total damage

The 45-year-old suffered minor injuries in the collision and had to be taken to hospital for further treatment by the emergency services.

No one else involved was injured.

The police estimate the total damage to all vehicles at around 30,000 euros.

The Munich traffic police have taken over the investigation.
