2021-11-09T04:43:39.147Z

Another large Chinese electric recreational vehicle joins the local market. A great many advantages alongside noticeable disadvantages create a mixed impression. Price puts it in front of the leading electric competitors and this is its main problem

Man by nature is an adaptive production.

Good things, of course, get used to quickly.

And it can be said in the same breath that the influx of vehicles from China that has been sweeping the country in the last two years, has made us get used to a relatively high level.

We are no longer surprised by a properly built Chinese vehicle, well equipped and reasonably modern in terms of looks and feel in the cabin.

Such exactly is the Sky5 ET5 whose regular marketing will begin next month.

This is a first model, these are expected to join more, and at first glance it is very impressive - even at second glance.

The design looks modern and unpretentious.

The result is definitely different from the environment but manages to look more solid than futuristic.

The smart laser headlights and light signature on the back also add to the modern look.

Inside, that feeling continues.

The general lines are long and nice, the multimedia screen is huge, the center console is huge, the materials are soft and the spacing is excellent.

Some parts of the cabin look like they were copied from Mercedes models, no less.

The result is quite impressive and that is even before we started counting the many options that the Skywell offers in the cabin.

Most of them are controlled by the said huge touch screen.

Some are more important and some are amusing gimmicks.

In the important part you can mention the control of the air conditioning, for example on the gimmicks side you can specify different rest modes, between party and relaxation - the driver's seat mode becomes a bed and even the footrest is electrically removable and the sounds of birds chirping in the cabin.

Dynamic

The impression in static mode, the Skywell continues in travel mode, for episodes.

As long as it's the busy and usual traffic jams of Gush Dan, for example, it's fine.

The problems start on bumpy roads, both at urban and interurban speeds, with unsuccessful dealing with uneven bumpy road surfaces.

Even what manages to be swallowed up by the suspension system, transmits noise from the wheelhouses into the cabin.

Road noise isolation is also not quite successful.

When it comes to performance and range, the Skivel declares 204 hp and 460 km between charges.

When it comes to power, despite the dimensions and weight the performance is quite good and there is no noticeable lack of power both in the jump from the spot and in intermediate accelerations.

When it comes to behavior, the Skyavel feels big, heavy and soft and too, with these features affecting the ability to turn and grip.

The driving range on the test days was about 400 km and it is definitely a given that will satisfy every local user.

The Bottom Line

The ET5 is a pretty impressive vehicle, but there are still sharp corners to work on.

Suspension work, noise isolation, and final calibration for various systems.

The human engineering should also be noted, with inadequate tuning to the steering wheel or non-intuitive operation of all the options on the screen.

Some things will be handled by the importer in front of the manufacturer in various software updates.

Some will need more than that.

Bottom line the Skywell could have definitely been a successful deal at a different price.

At the current pricing, it is directly in front of the best electric cars on the market, in front of which it is portrayed as not eloquent or refined.

More attractive pricing would highlight its advantages and obscure its disadvantages.
