Breitbrunn - Kathrin Greimel-Moog (53) founded the heart sports group 25 years ago at TSV Herrsching.

Under the leadership of Otto Schmidt, the rehab department of the sports club emerged, including three coronary groups.

On Tuesdays, the 53-year-old happily pushes a badminton racket into the hands of around 15 participants in the heart sports group, whereupon they happily hit the shuttlecock over the net. For exactly 25 years, people with heart problems have been exercising under the guidance of a certified sports teacher with additional training for outpatient rehabilitation sports in Herrsching's secondary school gym. Because, unlike in the past, we know that the heart should not be spared after a heart attack, a bypass operation or with a heart valve defect, but should be strengthened with targeted exercises. "The aim of the group is to maintain and improve fitness through gymnastics, endurance training, coordination exercises and relaxation, to reduce fears and to learn to deal better with the disease," explains the 53-year-old.for whom the rehabilitation measure is a heart project in both senses of the word.

It all started with the question: “Why is there really no coronary sport in Herrsching?” A thought that the Breitbrunn native four years after graduating as a “cardiac exercise instructor” decided - and spontaneously decided to change that. However, before the first interested people could work on their fitness for 60 minutes on November 5, 1996, a year should have passed. TSV-Herrsching immediately offered itself as a sponsor, but between the idea and its implementation it had to overcome a number of administrative and bureaucratic hurdles. Organizing the defibrillator and the emergency kit, for example - and the greatest stamina cost her the approval of the funds, she says.

Another requirement for the group was medical supervision, which at the time was Dr. Stephan Huber and Dr. Norbert Dehoust took over. From then on, the doctors checked the participants' blood pressure and looked closely during the exercises. Currently, Dr. Karin Famler, the doctor in charge who is currently setting up a general practice in Seefeld. "So far, nothing serious has ever happened in the groups," Greimel-Moog is grateful. In addition to the health aspects, the hour is also psychologically important for the participants. Because a cardiovascular disorder sometimes comes out of the blue. “After that everything is different,” she knows. Because everyone in the group is equally affected, the exchange with one another is valuable for the psyche. The conversations are particularly intense on trips to the mountains, for example,to the surrounding lakes or at Christmas dinner. All activities that Greimel-Moog organized over the years.

"The Corona period was very difficult for everyone," says Greimel-Moog. “Many of them have lost their body and some are no longer coming.” After the group was allowed to be active again outdoors and in compliance with the safety distances, the joy was enormous, she reports. She heard sentences like "It's so nice that it goes on again." And "I missed the lesson very much." The mother of three also missed the sporting get-together. After all, she looked after the group herself during the pregnancies without interruption and comes up with something new every week for the process. She now leads all three cardiac sports groups with unbroken passion. Hartmut Bogner has been there from the start. "Kathrin does it fantastic," enthuses the Herrschinger. “The cardio exercise with her is optimal and the whole process is unique."

“But Otto Schmidt has the greatest work as the head of the department,” emphasizes the instructor modestly.
