Japan today launched an Epsilon transport rocket carrying nine satellites into orbit, in the latest attempt to boost the participation of educational institutions and companies in space development.
Kyodo news agency quoted the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency as saying that the Epsilon rocket, with a diameter of 2.6 meters, a length of 26 meters, and a weight of 96 tons, was launched from the Oshinura Space Center in the southwestern Kagoshima Prefecture, carrying nine satellites.
One of the satellites aboard the Epsilon transport rocket developed by Kawasaki Heavy Industries is an experimental vehicle designed to collect space debris.
