The nomination period for the Legislative Council election has four days left, and non-organized persons have successively signed up for the election.
Tsuen Wan District Councillor Lau Cheuk Yu applied for the election for the Southwest New Territories Constituency today (9th). He said that he had been nominated by 10 election committees. He described it as difficult to obtain nominations. He had contacted more than 50 election committees, many of whom "whatsapp can't read back." Some have nominated others.
Liu Zhuoyu revealed that a well-known business election committee had met with him and assisted in the nomination afterwards.
Liu Zhuoyu also said that his successful election as a district councillor two years ago made him think that he must take multiple steps to serve the community.
He hoped that the parliament would not be "singular", and should have multiple voices, emphasizing that it cannot stop others from criticizing.
Liu Zhuoyu went to the Kwai Hing Government Office to register for the election in the afternoon and was asked if he would call himself a "democrat". He did not respond positively, but emphasized that he must stand on the side of the people and speak for them.
When he was questioned later, he said that he participated in the district election due to the anti-revision law incident in 2019 and subsequently lost his friend as a police officer. However, he believed that he would “do it for sure” and would still stick to his own ideas.
Regarding whether to obtain enough nomination through intermediary talents, Liu Zhuoyu only said that he worked very hard to contact several election committees, and he also said that some election committees asked him about his ideas about the election and his views on the anti-revision case.
He mentioned that many election committees claimed that they would give nominations, but they were "silent in the end."
The government should think about the timing of Article 23
As for the argument that the central government allows non-organizational elections in order to create competition in the elections, Liu Zhuoyu believes that the Legislative Council still has value and influence, and he hopes to give full play to its profession to speak up for the public.
When asked about how citizens’ opinions on the legislation of Article 23 of the Basic Law will be reflected if they enter the parliament, Liu Zhuoyu said that the implementation of the “Minato National Security Law” last year caused turmoil. He thinks that the government should think about facing social tears. , Whether it is still suitable to legislate for Article 23, and emphasized that it should take a long time to consult the public.
