The Independent Commission Against Corruption today (9th) arrested two men and a woman, aged 29 to 65, on suspicion of violating the "Elections (Corrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ordinance".

According to the news, the three are ordinary netizens.

The ICAC arrested three people for allegedly reposting a post on the Internet, urging the public to vote in vain in the Legislative Council election.

The ICAC alleges that the three persons were suspected of violating Article 27A of the Election Ordinance, "during the election period to incitement another person not to vote or cast invalid votes", and reprinted a post on the Internet calling on the public to vote in vain in the Legislative Council election.

The ICAC seized several mobile phones during the operation, and all the arrested persons have been released on bail pending further investigation.

The ICAC stated that the investigation is still ongoing and it does not rule out further enforcement actions.

According to established procedures, after the ICAC completes the investigation, it will submit the investigation results to the Department of Justice for legal advice to decide whether to prosecute.

The nomination period for the Legislative Council election began on October 30. From that day until the polling day on December 19, it is defined as the "election period."

"Public activities" include any form of communication to the public, as well as the distribution or dissemination of any materials to the public.

Anyone suspected of violating the above regulations can be sentenced to a maximum of 3 years in prison and a fine of 200,000 yuan.
