Looking for vacant heroes

2021-11-09T10:14:25.373Z

The “Vacancy” project of the Munich University of Applied Sciences is entirely to the taste of the Local Action Group (LAG) Ammersee, the state-sponsored Leader program in the region. "It's going exactly in our direction," says LAG manager Detlef Däke happily. The students who approached the LAG in the winter semester and developed ideas to use vacant properties around the Ammersee sensibly thought so too.

Dießen / Herrsching

- A workshop should lead to the solution. First, however, the communities have to be brought on board. On Friday the students presented their project in front of the television camera in Diessen. “I'm happy that they stuck with it,” says Däke. So that a workshop should actually take place in which the 16 member communities of the LAG could finally be involved. As an example, however, only two would be selected for the time being, says the supervising professor em. Dr. Theo Eberhard. So two municipalities from a list of 24 in four counties. All located around the Ammersee, including the member communities of the LAG - from Wörthsee to Moorenweiß and from Grafrath to Pähl.

The students took a look at the area, talked to the people, asked about their wishes for the future. Because "Shaping the future" is the guideline that the Munich University of Applied Sciences announced in an interdisciplinary manner and specified various subject areas. The individual working groups were mixed: The “vacancy” team therefore consists of students from the faculties of civil engineering, business administration, management of social innovations and tourism. Because it's not just about living, but also about leisure and business. The project can be viewed from many angles in an interdisciplinary manner.

It's about empty and unused houses, such as the old printing works in Dießen, but also shops and apartments. The aim is to revive this vacancy - in the sense of community, village structure and tradition. The ideas for this are to be developed with the citizens in a kind of workshop. The students named the method by which this workshop should be carried out "World Café" because the focus should not be on the project work itself, but rather on "creative comfort". This is not intended as an empty phrase, but meant literally - including soft music that is intended to take away the fear of the new method. So something that should be fun for everyone.

The aim is an inter-municipal network for the entire region. And that by means of a vacancy platform. There is not only information about funding opportunities for old stocks, but also about ideas for use. These could be: shared apartments or community gardens. Herrsching, for example, is currently looking for a place for public orchards and flowering meadows (we reported). Other usage ideas are rooms for open workshops, for artists and culture, for co-working or other temporary uses. As a good example, the project group cites the initiative of the Dießen Free Art Institute, which, as is well known, developed a concept for the now community-owned Dießen printing houses, but was put off for the time being. The project group calls initiatives like these “vacant heroes”.

The interaction of young and old is an essential part of the whole idea, so as not to ignore the needs.

By combining online and offline public participation, all age groups are to be reached flexibly and attractively.

“A tool for self-help” is what the business model says.

An opportunity to constantly exchange ideas and ways of thinking in order to ultimately develop ideas together that make the rural region attractive, affordable and lively.

The students hope for the support of the mayor.

Däke has already insured the support from the LAG.

Funding opportunities through the village renewal program or the Bavaria future program are being examined.

Vacant apartments

Exactly two years ago, the SPD Herrsching picked up the keyword vacancy.

The SPD was also concerned with making better use of existing space.

The local association, however, wanted to take up a Munich concept that primarily concerned living space in order to achieve targeted redensification.

“Prohibition of misappropriation of living space” is the name of this concept, which is also directed against Airbnb.

The application of the local association did not find a majority, a citizen application with the same goal was only rejected in March of this year.
