Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani activist who won the Nobel Peace Prize, has married, she announced Tuesday on Instagram.

"Today marks a precious day in my life. Asser and I have been married to be partners for life. We held a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families," Yousafzai wrote in her post.

"Please send your prayers. We are excited to walk together on the path that awaits us," he added.

Her husband is Asser Malik, a director of operations for the Pakistan Cricket Board of the city of Lahore.

Yousafzai gained international recognition for her activism against the Taliban's efforts to prevent girls from going to school.

When she was 15 years old, she was shot in the head by a member of the Taliban and she was taken to England for treatment.

In 2014, she won the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 17, becoming the youngest recipient.

Last year he obtained a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford.
