According to Education Minister Ernst (SPD), the reintroduction of the mask requirement at Brandenburg elementary schools has been decided in principle.
"There has already been a consultation in the cabinet and the result has to be said that we are expanding the mask to include elementary schools," Ernst told the German press agency on Tuesday.
"We will decide on Thursday morning what that looks like in concrete terms."
Potsdam - This decision could not be made so easily because the mask requirement for children is a major restriction, said the minister.
"That has to be weighed carefully because we have high numbers of infections in children, but few diseases."
It should still be discussed whether the mask requirement should apply in the first two years of primary school, explained Ernst.
"Because seeing the teacher's facial expressions as well as seeing the child's articulation for the teacher is so important for learning." Values should be coupled.

"We were very relieved that we hadn't had the mask in primary school for several weeks now," said Ernst.
However, one has to react to the increasing number of infections in children and adolescents.
It was annoying that, given the poor vaccination rates, the children had to make a contribution to protecting the unvaccinated adults again, emphasized Ernst.
