On Friday (November 5th), a 60-year-old from Valleyer was called by an employee of an alleged Microsoft hotline.

He wanted to point out to the man alleged problems with his PC.

"The 60-year-old was suspicious, however, gave the unknown caller no information and interrupted the phone call," said the police.

A pensioner from Holzkirchen was less skeptical when he was called by an alleged Microsoft employee on Monday (November 8th) at around 10 a.m.

For an alleged license extension, he should pay an amount of around 150 euros.

"Then he gave the unknown caller access to his PC and laptop, gave out credit card details and also released several TAN numbers," reports the police.

"The pensioner finally ended the phone call and then informed the police about the call." The Holzkirchner had the account, online banking and credit card blocked as a precaution.

The police have not yet received any information on the amount of the financial damage.

Due to current events, the police ask for caution:

  • Do not respond to the callers' demands and end the call.

  • Never give out sensitive data such as PINs, TANs, passwords or credit card numbers to strangers.

  • Do not perform any installations or downloads and do not make any payments.

  • Uninstall the previously installed apps.

  • Change your passwords immediately.

  • Disconnect the Internet connection and update the anti-virus program on your PC.

  • Report the attempted fraud to your local police station as soon as possible.

  • Ideally, write down the number of the unknown caller.
