The lack of charging options is still a deterrent for many potential e-car buyers.

The Rewe Group now wants to counter this.

Cologne - How practical it would be if your own car were completely filled up again after shopping in the supermarket.

This dream could soon come true for e-car drivers.

Because the Rewe Group has entered into a partnership with Shell and Energie Baden-Württemberg to equip a number of stores with e-charging stations.

Rewe has set itself the goal of installing over 6,000 charging points at Penny and Rewe stores by the end of 2024, as the

food newspaper

reports.

According to Shell, the e-filling stations are to be supplied with green electricity.

The project is part of a number of different environmental goals of the Rewe Group.

The group wants to become completely climate neutral by 2040.

Rewe and Penny: e-car charging stations should make life easier for customers

REWE sustainability manager Günther Krabbe explained: “We have to make it easy for consumers to change their behavior by providing an attractive range of products with a good carbon footprint.” In the future, these offers should also include charging points in the markets. After all, customers should include them facilitate the switch to e-mobility.

The Rewe Group reports a total of 26,000 charging stations for e-cars in Germany.

Only ten percent of this is provided by retailers.

130 Penny and Rewe stores currently have a charging infrastructure.

Now the Cologne retail giant wants to increase massively.

Kaufland and Lidl: Other supermarkets are also promoting e-car charging points

Rewe has brought Shell on board as a partner.

Because the gas station giant has recognized the potential for e-charging stations.

The company set up the first fast charging stations at filling stations as early as 2019.

By the end of the year, the group would like to equip 50 additional locations with charging options under the Shell Recharge brand.

This would result in approx.

240 fast charging options must be set up.

But not only the Rewe Group is adapting to traffic developments.

The Schwarz Group, which includes Lidl and Kaufland, is also working on the topic of e-mobility.

Each new branch of the group will in future receive at least one charging station, and charging points will also be retrofitted with every modernization.
