The worst fears have been confirmed: The long-missing Sebastian M. is dead. His remains were found on November 4th in a forest near Föching.

Erlkam

- Now it is a sad certainty: Sebastian M., who has been missing since May 30, 2021, is no longer alive.

As the press office of the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria South announced on Tuesday, passers-by found his body in a wooded area near Föching not far from the Holzkirchen-Süd petrol station and service station.

According to the police, strollers made the gruesome discovery on the afternoon of last Thursday (November 4th).

To date, there is no information about the exact location.

At first there was a patrol from the Holzkirchen police station, then the Miesbach police took over.

Forensic medical examinations had to confirm that the remains are the body of the missing 61-year-old.

These are now available and confirm the suspicion.

The investigators of the Kripo assume that no other person was involved in the death of the 61-year-old.

As stated in the communication, there is no evidence of third-party negligence.

Reported missing since May 30th

Sebastian M. had been living in the Regens Wagner care facility in Erlkam, a part of the market town of Holzkirchen, for a number of years. Apparently there had been a small argument on May 30th, a Sunday. As a result, the 61-year-old climbed onto his eye-catching special tricycle and cycled off to an unknown destination. The mentally handicapped M. had been out and about in the forest several times. But the hopes of the relatives and those responsible at Regens Wagner for a speedy return were not fulfilled. The 61-year-old was reported missing.

The police looked for the missing person with a large contingent, including with helicopters and dog squadrons.

On June 8, a witness claims to have seen the man on his bicycle, on the way on the field path between Erlkam and the Mölgg-Aberg homestead.

A passer-by then found the tricycle and helmet that the missing person allegedly had deliberately deposited in a small wood near Mölgg-Aberg.

The bike was locked.

Since the end of June there has been no sign of life

Another search was initiated. Search dogs (mantrailers) took in the weather and found tracks that cut across the wooded area in the Teufelsgraben between Erlkam, Föching and Otterfing. Sebastian M., who was considered shy of people and was hard of hearing, however, stayed away. Obviously he didn't want to be found. On June 20, a witness reported seeing a man at Fellach's house who matched the description. Another search was again unsuccessful.

Since the end of June there has been no sign of life from the missing person.

The fears that M. is no longer alive increased with each passing day - until now on November 4th his remains were found.

"How long the missing person was dead can no longer be determined," said Stefan Sonntag, spokesman for the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria-South, on request.

The discovery situation suggests that the body had been there for some time.

Since, among other things, a pacemaker was found during the autopsy, the identity could be established beyond doubt, according to the police.
