Questions about the Sinovac vaccine for children

Dr.

In Ecuador, children from 5 years old are being placed with the Sinovac, there will be no problems in them since the Pfizer is recommended ???

Hi Violeta.

Every time the health authorities of a country authorize the use of a vaccine for any age group, they are obliged to inform society of the scientific basis for such a decision.

The decision appears to be based on a phase 1-2 study done in China and published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases in June 2021, which showed that the vaccine is safe and effective in children ages 3 to 17.

. @ drhuerta in Colombia have approved vaccination in children 3-11 years with the Sinovac vaccine.

What is your opinion of this decision?

I have a 4-year-old girl and I do not dare to vaccinate her because I am not sure of the safety of this (and any) vaccine in children so young

- Victor Valencia (@vvalencias) November 1, 2021

Hello Victor.

The Chinese CoronaVac vaccine is being used to immunize children in Chile and Ecuador.

Those decisions appear to be based on a phase 1-2 study done in China published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases in June 2021, which showed that the vaccine is safe and effective in children ages 3 to 17.

I suggest you speak to your child's pediatrician please.

Questions about vaccines in pregnant and nursing mothers

Hello Dr, a question the mother of my son (5-month-old baby) in a few days has the second dose of modern, since I already return to work and I want to know if this benefits or could affect the baby?

I have that doubt

- Javi Vides (@ JaviVides9) November 1, 2021

Hi, Javi, don't worry.

No vaccine given to the mother affects the baby.

On the contrary, some of the antibodies produced by it can cross the placenta and give temporary protection to the baby.

@drhuerta good morning doctor, my wife recently found out that she is pregnant and I receive spunik at the same time, her gynecologist recommended that the second be with pfizer,

- jimmy neutrono (@JNeutrono) November 3, 2021

Hello Jimmy, pregnant women constitute a group at high risk of complications for covid-19, so they must be protected from serious illness and death with vaccination.

I think you should follow the advice of your wife's gynecologist.

Questions about the vaccine mix

@drhuerta Good morning.

I was vaccinated with modern but the second dose never came.

I read on the laboratory's own page that if it passed the 32 days it no longer had any effect.

What should I do?

Vaccinate again?

Use another vaccine?

Thanks

- @DePapa (@edwinchavesbta) November 2, 2021

Hi Depapa, I think you should get your second dose at any time.

The first dose you received was enough to stimulate the formation of memory cells and neutralizing antibodies.

The second, regardless of when you apply it, will stimulate memory cells to produce an extra amount of neutralizing antibodies.

@drhuerta Greetings!

Dr. Huerta on 07/20/21 they gave me the 1st dose of the Sputnik V vaccine but in my receipt they put Pfizer, now yesterday 11/03/21 I got the 2nd dose of Pfizer.

Can they be combined?

Should I be worried?

- Andrew Barboza (@ HeyAndrew_7) November 4, 2021

Hi Andrew, don't worry, a study in Argentina found that the Sputnik V vaccine can be completed with Moderna's, which is messenger RNA technology like Pfizer's.

I recommend that you speak with your GP.

Questions about vaccines and various conditions

@drhuerta Good evening.

I am a person with type 1 diabetes. 6 months ago I received the J&J vaccine.

Yesterday I applied a dose of aztra as a booster.

My question is, should I apply the second dose of aztra or just one.

- marina garcia (@ mariyoku14) November 6, 2021

Hi Marina, very good question.

The first dose you received was enough to stimulate the formation of memory cells and neutralizing antibodies.

Second, it stimulates memory cells to produce an extra amount of neutralizing antibodies, so you no longer need a third dose.

Dr I am taking flunarizine for migraines and vertigo that the covid left me 3 months ago, they sent it to me days x 1 month, I placed the 1st dose of sipnofar 2 days ago I can start taking it again? And I can continue taking probiotics and levothyroxine which are my usual meds?

- Lis (@ Lisecita1404) November 5, 2021

Hello Lis, in general it is not recommended that people who are taking any medication have to stop them before or after vaccination.

Perhaps the only exception is in those who are taking the medicine methotrexate, as it has been seen that it can decrease the formation of antibodies.

Is a Pfizer booster appropriate after getting vaccinated with Sinovac?

1:26

Questions about booster doses

@drhuerta good morning Dr Huerta, people have received the double dose Astra Zeneca vaccine, can they get vaccinated a third time with Pfizer or J&J?

It's advisable?

Thanks.

- Dynamite (@SuicideMachine) November 5, 2021

Hello, Dynamite, what you are proposing is precisely the concept of booster doses that, as we know, is accepted by most of the countries whose large part of their population has been fully vaccinated.

You just have to follow the instructions of the Ministry of Health of your country to know what are the recommendations related to booster doses.

Doctor: I am from Argentina.

I have 2 doses of Sinopharm.

I have been summoned for a third but they do not tell me which one.

I wear whatever or is there one in particular as reinforcement?

Thank you

- Raúl Pitté (@ Pitte66) November 5, 2021

Hi, Raúl, there are actually no specific studies that have been done to find out which is the best vaccine to be used as a booster dose for Sinopharm, however, in Peru it is recommended to use the Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccines.

On the other hand, for the CoronaVac vaccine (which uses the same inactivated virus technology as Sinopharm), in Uruguay the one from Pfizer is used as a booster dose and, in Chile, that of AstraZeneca.

Questions about vaccines in Europe

@drhuerta Dear Dr. Huerta.

I am Peruvian like you and I admire your work and career.

Could you please comment on the new WHO-approved Covaxin vaccine and its imminent emergency approval for children ages 2 to 18 in the US?

Thanks Dr.

- Antonio Mires G (@ G1Mires) November 6, 2021

Hello Antonio.

Covaxin is a vaccine developed by the Indian company Bharat Biotech in association with the National Institute of Virology and the Indian Council for Medical Research.

The vaccine uses inactivated virus technology, similar to the Chinese Sinopharm and CoronaVac vaccines from the Sinovac laboratory.

According to phase 3 studies, it is 78% effective in preventing disease, compared to a placebo.

The vaccine was approved for emergency use in India on January 3 of this year and has also been approved for emergency use by the World Health Organization, allowing people vaccinated with Covaxin to enter the United States. remember that this country allows the entry of people fully immunized with vaccines approved by the WHO.

@drhuerta What can you say about the suspension of the application of the modern vaccine in Europe for causing inflammation of the heart ... I ask why my 20-year-old daughter was put in Honduras

- ELuna (@edgarahl) November 2, 2021

Excellent question, Eluna.

If you have received a message on social media that Moderna's vaccine has been suspended in Europe, I tell you that this is a half truth.

While it is true that Sweden has banned it for those over 20 years old, Denmark has suspended it for those under 18 years old, Finland has suspended it for men under 20 years old and Iceland has suspended it for men between 18 and 39 years old. , the rest of the European countries are using it.

Although there is a rare chance of developing heart inflammation from Moderna's vaccine, an American prepublication found that the chance of developing myocarditis is six times higher in those who suffer from Covid-19 than those who have received the vaccine, so the benefit of vaccination outweighs risk.

Question about the AstraZeneca dose interval

@drhuerta In my country they are putting the 2nd dose of Astra Zeneca vaccine 3 weeks after receiving the 1st.

Dose, everything I have read about it speaks of 8 weeks, my question is, do I get the 2nd with 3 weeks of having received the 1st.

Dose?

- Ironcha (@ lroncha75) November 1, 2021

Hi Ironcha, very good question.

What the manufacturer says is that the second dose of AstraZeneca should be administered 28 days or 4 weeks after the first.

However, in the United Kingdom and other countries the second dose was given at 8 to 12 weeks, a recommendation that had to be changed due to the appearance of the delta variant.

Therefore, you should follow the indications given in your country.
