(CNN) -
"Squid Game" creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has confirmed that he will be making a second season of the hit Netflix drama.
The reaction to the series has left him "with no choice" but to do another, Hwang said at a red carpet event for "Squid Game" at NeueHouse in Los Angeles on Monday.
"There has been so much demand, love and attention for a season two, so I feel like I have no choice but to do a season two," he said.
"I have a rough idea on that, but I think it's too early to say when or how specifically. But I can promise you this: Gi-hun will come back and do something for the world."
"Squid Game" has become a worldwide phenomenon.
A Netflix spokesperson told CNN that the company was in talks about a second season, but that it had not yet been confirmed.
"Squid Game" is a South Korean fictional drama in which contestants in desperate need of money play deadly childhood games to win cash prizes.

In early October, Hwang shared his thoughts on a second season with CNN.
"Writing, producing and directing a series alone was really a big task. When I think about doing the same for the second season, personally I am a little concerned," he said.
"Nothing is confirmed at the moment, but a lot of people are excited that I'm really looking at it."
