25 plastic artists entered the old neighborhoods of Homs through nearly thirty paintings that embodied the aesthetics stored in memory and the historical landmarks of the city within an exhibition at the Subhi Shuaib Gallery of Fine Arts in Homs.

The exhibition, which was organized by the Union of Fine Artists in cooperation with Al-Wadi Private University and the Association of Friends of Expatriates, was entitled “Salute to Old Homs.” His paintings included landmarks, neighborhoods and alleys of the old city in a realistic style close to impressionism, while touching in some of his expressive works to radiate from his paintings history, pictures and the intimate atmosphere in them And intimacy, peace and tranquility despite all that the war destroyed.

Artist Emile Farha, head of the branch of the Union of Plastic Artists in Homs, indicated in a statement to SANA Cultural that the exhibition is like an annual tradition with the aim of reviving the city’s heritage on the sidelines of the exhibitions that are held, as it carries a historical message to stop the mutilation and demolition of buildings and monuments that we are proud of.

The plastic artist Maysa Ali, director of the Exhibitions Office in the branch of the Union of Fine Artists, participated in two works of the alleys and streets of the old city, one of them is “The Mosque of Virtues with the Street around it” and the other monitors one of the arches and flankers. The artist Abdel Fattah Al-Abed painted in hot oil colors a scene of one of the old neighborhoods of Homs, while the artist Youssef Mohammed conjured a painting from his memory and body of an archaeological place in the old Homs.

The artist Carmen Shqira depicted in three oil paintings the Church of the Forty, the old neighborhoods and Sibat, noting the diversity of schools that participated in the exhibition and its importance in preserving heritage and introducing the young generation in it.

And the black stones that characterize the ancient Homs architecture emerged in the painting of the artist Mohabbat Lyon, as she mixed between the realistic and expressive style.

On the sidelines of the exhibition, a symposium on ancient Homs was held in the Union Hall, which dealt with the city's geographical importance and its mediation for the governorates and its history dating back to 2300 years before Christ.

Architect Magda Hanna, a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Friends of Expatriates, spoke about Homs in the eyes of its writers and poets, the city walls stacked with black stones and its seven iron doors surrounded by fortified towers, pointing out that it is a city rich in antiquities and the most important thing that has been discovered and remains to this day is the castle, the wall, the bathrooms, the Great Mosque of Al-Nuri and the markets. "The Qaysiriyat and the Khans".

In his turn, the historical researcher, Eng. George Rabahih, referred to the historical monuments remaining in the city, temples, schools, and markets, the most famous of which is Al-Qaysariat, which specialized in a commercial type such as silk, looms, dyes, fabrics, and embroidery of all kinds, while others were distinguished by the manufacture of bedspreads, towels, keffiyehs, gowns, carpets and rugs. In turn, the Doctor of Architecture at Al-Wadi Private University, Caroline Farkouh, shed light on the ancient Homs architectural heritage and tradition and the importance of benefiting from it in developing the current architecture in a way that preserves the ancient tradition, adds a new spirit and achieves a human life service that fits the current building, pointing to the role of the Committee for the Protection of Old Homs, which includes Various activities for the city to protect the urban heritage of this city.
