A landlord was embarking on a huge renovation project in a 110-year-old villa he purchased in Salt Lake City, Utah, when he suddenly located under his carpet a massive amount of what looked like bloodstains.

The frightened landlord immediately called the police to take samples of the dubious stains in hopes of finding out what had happened in this house and whether he had reason to fear the following.

The owner, who opened a special ticking channel to document the lengthy renovation process, shared the disturbing finding in the video, which garnered millions of views.

In the video you can see how he removes the large, green carpet when a number of "blood stains" are exposed at the bottom.

The landlord explained: "At first we were not sure what it was, but the deeper we went, the clearer it became that it was blood. I mean ... an alarming amount of blood."

When the landlord began renovating the property, which was built in 1911, he excitedly described the "unique characteristics" of the place, although even then he found murals in the basement, resembling cave paintings, that were a bit stressful.

The disturbing thing he found under the rug a few days later forced him to involve the police.

The police arrived at the scene and confirmed that it did indeed look like blood, although they could not determine if it belonged to a human or an animal without performing a laboratory test.

The landlord said police did not show much interest: "The police did not do tests or take samples. Although they said it was probably blood, they do not do these types of tests unless there is a serious suspicion of crime here," he added.

His videos garnered millions of views, with many asking the landlord to update them on developments and he updated that he had bought himself a kit to check for blood stains - and he was waiting for it to arrive.

One respondent wrote: "This area has been common in criminal activities for many years. Murder may have taken place there" and another added: "This is entirely a crime scene."

Another user tried to reassure: "Old blood shouldn't turn into heat? It looks like old red wine stains. Well, I hope it's red wine."
