Bad Wiessee - The new image film from Bad Wiessee has caused a lot of criticism, especially because of scenes about mountain biking.

This was again an issue in the local council.

With the new image film "Servus Bad Wiessee - the film", the municipality of Bad Wiessee wanted to present all facets of the place.

But the video caused displeasure on some sides.

The reason: In two sequences, two mountain bikers can be seen rushing over a meadow and through mountain forest to the valley at the Holzer Alm.

Farmer and CSU councilor Alois Fichtner, who can be seen in the film, publicly distanced himself from this part of the film.

In their most recent meeting, the local councils dealt with the issue.

Mayor Robert Kühn had invited Tim Coldewey from the municipal company Alpenregion Tegernsee-Schliersee (ATS) to speak on the subject of "Mountain biking - a sport between nature conservation and leisure pressure".

ATS develops mountain bike concept

There was already a round table on the subject in 2020, said Coldewey.

A steering group was established and a dynamic concept developed.

“We definitely don't want to create new paths for mountain bikers,” stressed Coldewey.

It's all about the roads that are already being used.

One or two suitable paths should be marked out per municipality, also with a view to environmental compatibility, including signage.

Under no circumstances do they want to install a second Sölden or Saalbach-Hinterglemm in the district, said the speaker, referring to the bike parks there.

The aim is to create clear and regulated conditions on the mountain, also for landowners, over whose properties the paths often lead.

The ATS will negotiate with the owners of the relevant properties in October and November and will also listen to their objections.

Short-term blocks possible

Coldewey was able to dispel concerns about the liability issue: the municipal liability insurance also covers accidents.

If an owner has given his placet, the care and maintenance of the path is the responsibility of the respective municipality.

In addition, volunteer rangers should check that the rules are being followed.

In the event of overload or problems with users, short-term locks should also be possible, explained Coldewey.

The next step is to discuss with the municipalities where guidance is required in order to define the corridors.

"Of course, hikers still have priority on hiking trails," he emphasized.

Overall, the district-wide solution is aiming for more spread across the area.

Physical assault by mountain bikers

“Something like that shouldn't happen anymore,” said Kurt Sareiter (CSU) with a view to the passage in the video. He complained that the film had not been shown to the local councils before it was released. Perhaps the two scenes in question should be removed. Here Kühn intervened to apologize. They never wanted to give the impression that anyone could do whatever they wanted in nature. Nor is it a disdain for the work of farmers: "They preserve our cultural landscape, and tourism also benefits from it."

"You can often hear a lot there," said Georg Erlacher (CSU), himself a farmer, about his experiences with unrepentant mountain bikers.

He has also experienced physical assaults.

His fear: After a short time the designated path would become too boring, and the bikers would soon be looking for new branches in the area.

Fichtner agreed.

Looking for a kick, some idiots with headlamps are out in the woods in the middle of the night.

Ranger with a cash register as a last resort

Admittedly, Coldewey admitted that there was a small proportion of ignoramuses everywhere.

Elsewhere, however, they have had consistently positive experiences.

If not, act quickly: "The last resort is then the ranger with the cash register."

Bernd Kuntze-Fechner (SPD), who welcomed the idea of the concept, is certain that it will not be the last discussion on this topic.

Wolf-Hagen Böttger from the Green Group is hoping for a quick implementation.
