Less than a month after the Codigoro health emergency (where almost 38
thousand turkeys
were killed at the end of October), there is another outbreak of
avian flu
in the Lower Ferrara area which has led, for now, to the precautionary seizure of almost 50 thousand turkeys . The local press reports.
The subject of the provision is a poultry farm in Lagosanto which is headed - writes Nuova Ferrara - by a company that is part of the Amadori group. The outbreak of avian influenza was reportedly found on November 5 and the virus detected is type A H5N1, with a level that is defined as "low pathogenic". The alert went off to the Local Health Authority of Ferrara and to the municipal administration which took urgent measures to prevent the spread of the disease.
There are nearly 50,000 broiler turkeys on the farm.
The ordinance signed by the mayor Cristian Bertarelli currently provides for the seizure of animals on the farm, with the prohibition to let them go out, both live and any carcasses.
Also forbidden to introduce other animals.
Access is denied to anyone not involved in managing the outbreak.
