Berlin - The Berlin Senate has decided on further clear restrictions for people without corona vaccination protection. The so-called 2G rule is to be expanded significantly after a decision on Wednesday, as the Senate Chancellery announced. In view of the increasing number of corona cases and emerging bottlenecks in the intensive care units, in the future only those who have been vaccinated and recovered (2G) should have access to restaurants, cinemas, saunas or arcades, not even those who have been tested. Those who are not vaccinated will often have to stay outside in the future.

The new 2G regulation already applies from Monday and is initially limited to November 28th.

This does not apply to people who have not yet reached the age of 18.

A negative corona test is still sufficient for them.

This also applies to people who have been shown to be unable to be vaccinated for medical reasons.

The restrictions affect very different areas.

Culture: In addition to cinemas, the new 2G rule also applies to theaters, museums and galleries, for example.

Gastronomy: Cafés, pubs and restaurants are also only allowed to enter closed rooms for those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered.

Events: The 2G rule generally applies to events in closed rooms - with the exception of courses in universities, for example.

For events with more than 2000 participants, the 2G rule is also required outdoors.

Leisure: It also applies to leisure facilities such as saunas and thermal baths and comparable facilities, as well as to amusement facilities such as amusement arcades, as long as it concerns closed rooms.

The same applies to amusement parks, but also to the Berlin Zoo, Tierpark Berlin or the Botanical Garden.

Tourist offers: Excursions, for example by bus or boat tours on the Spree, are only allowed for those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered.

Personal care services: The 2G rule will in future be mandatory in both the cosmetic studio and the hairdressing salon.

In the case of body-hugging services for which the 2G rule does not apply - such as medical foot care, occupational therapy or treatments by alternative practitioners - a mask is required.

Sport and fitness: In fitness and dance studios or similar facilities, 2G is mandatory, just like with sports in the hall.

Personnel: Anyone who works where the 2G rule applies and has customer contact must be vaccinated, recovered or tested negative for a maximum of 24 hours beforehand.

Hospital staff who interact with patients must be vaccinated, recovered, or have daily tests.

Work: Commercial and public employers are encouraged but not obliged to ensure that a maximum of half of the office workplaces are used at the same time.

This does not apply to activities involving customer or patient contact.

Workplaces where the presence of workers is necessary for the functioning of the judiciary and administration are also excluded.

Currently in Berlin, restaurant operators or event organizers, for example, can decide for themselves whether they allow access to their interiors for vaccinated, convalescent and tested people (3G) or only for vaccinated and convalescent people (2G).

With 2G there is no mask requirement.

In contrast, 2G was already required for clubs and other providers of dance events.

Before the current changes to the Berlin Infection Protection Ordinance, the Senate agreed on the expansion of 2G on Monday.

Because of several commemorative events on Tuesday - including the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall - there was no regular Senate meeting, instead there was a telephone switch on late Wednesday afternoon.

The Senate Department for Education also decided on Monday to reintroduce the mask requirement in elementary schools, which had only been lifted in the week before the autumn break.

With the tightening of the corona measures, the Senate is reacting to the significantly increased number of infections in Germany and Berlin in recent weeks.

According to the data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Wednesday, the seven-day incidence in the capital is 227.8.
