Corona zoff about traffic light plans: CDU and left are pushing for 2G - "alone if necessary"

The traffic light parties want to change the Infection Protection Act.

There are discussions about the 3G rule.

The CDU and the left are calling for a tightening.

That is not enough for expert Drosten either.

Berlin - In view of the massive infection rate in Germany, the traffic light parties have developed a new catalog of measures to contain the corona pandemic.

Some experts criticize - similar to the GroKo parties - that the resolutions do not go far enough.

But the future opposition parties also bring their own demands into play.

For example, the new draft law provides for 3G in the workplace and the return of free citizen tests.

However, the parties of the prospective traffic light coalition are not planning a nationwide 2G rule - unlike the CDU and the Left.

Bartsch calls for 2G throughout Germany

“Lockdown for everyone or restrictions for the unvaccinated?

That will be the crucial question of this Corona winter, from which the traffic lights must not duck, "said the parliamentary group leader of the Left, Dietmar Bartsch, of the German press agency.

He called for nationwide restrictions for unvaccinated people.

"It is a matter of weighing up interests and the question of what is the greater encroachment on fundamental rights: Another lockdown with catastrophic consequences, especially for children and families, or a nationwide 2G model," said Bartsch.

The corona situation is out of control again.

When it comes to the basic question of fighting a pandemic, there should be no patchwork or false considerations.

In his opinion, it would be a “maximally disproportionate encroachment on fundamental rights to decree a new lockdown for the vaccinated majority in this country and lead the health system to collapse”.

Wüst urges federal-state meetings on 2G - "If necessary, can also act alone"

The CDU also has other ideas about the measures to combat the pandemic: North Rhine-Westphalia's new Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst urges a quick federal-state meeting on the corona situation and talks about a nationwide 2G regulation. “I think we should come to an understanding across Germany that we won't end up with a patchwork quilt again. And 2G seems to be a tried and tested means, we have to talk about it, ”said the chairman of the Prime Minister's Conference on Deutschlandfunk.

"We are also able to act alone if necessary, but my pre would be a common strategy together with the federal government", said the NRW head of government.

The day before, Wüst had called for a prime ministerial conference this week.

The SPD states are currently struggling with a federal-state meeting because they have the calendar full of coalition negotiations, said Wüst in an interview.

"But the virus does not wait until a government has formed, you can see that from the extremely rising numbers." The Managing Minister of Economic Affairs Peter Altmaier (CDU) also thought out loud about "nationwide 2G" in the ZDF talk "Markus Lanz".

Drosten expects "exhausting winter" - new contact restrictions?

But is 2G enough, as the CDU and the left are demanding, as a measure to get through the winter?

Virologist Christian Drosten said on Tuesday (November 9th) in the NDR podcast “The Coronavirus Update” that he also considered new contact restrictions to be conceivable: “So now we probably have to control the infection activity again through contact measures - not likely, but definitely. “He expects a very stressful winter“ with new, let's say calmly: shutdown measures ”.

Measures such as 3G or even 2G are probably not enough to reduce the number of infections enough in view of the delta variant.
