Hong Kong has been cleared for more than a few days, but yesterday, two of the initially confirmed people who entered the community were crew members exempted from quarantine. They both carried the L452R variant virus, and one of them had a very high viral load.

Government expert adviser Xu Shuchang said that if this case did not cause a community outbreak, it should not affect negotiations with the Mainland for customs clearance. However, the National Health Commission is very concerned about the exemption of crew members from isolation, which will become a weakness in Hong Kong's epidemic prevention.

Two 29-year-old and 57-year-old quarantine-exempt crew members were both Cathay Pacific cargo pilots. Among them, the 29-year-old patient had a CT value of 13 to 16, and the virus load was very high. They became ill on November 8 and received compulsory testing on the same day. It was positive; the 57-year-old patient had a CT value ranging from 31 to 34, and the amount of virus was low.

Both have completed the new crown vaccination.

Xu Shuchang, a government expert consultant and chair professor of the Department of Respiratory System at CUHK, pointed out that if there is no outbreak in the community this time, customs clearance with the mainland should not be affected. However, the National Health Commission is very concerned about the arrangement of the Transport and Housing Bureau to exempt the crew from isolation. This expert meeting discussed relevant "weaknesses".

Because the 29-year-old crew member was carrying a mutated virus strain and was at a higher risk of contagion and infection, the government conducted a test in the Kaiyu closed area of Tsim Sha Tsui where he lives last night.

As of midnight, about 300 residents were tested and there were no positive cases.

The authorities sent personnel to visit about 260 households, and about 100 households were unattended. After that, they checked the test reports of about 150 people under inspection. It was found that 13 people had not been tested, and mandatory testing orders were issued to them.

In addition, "Bloomberg" quoted mainland officials as saying that the mainland and Hong Kong governments hope to revert to some ports bordering Hong Kong and Guangdong to clear customs before the Lunar New Year. That is to say, there may be limited customs clearance with the mainland in January next year. In other words, it was reported earlier. There will be limited customs clearance in December, and the day may be postponed again.
