Kempten - At the 14th Kempten-Ost district advisory board meeting, those present were asked to pass resolutions on various topics.

Sufficient members came to the meeting in the parish hall of St. Ulrich to pass resolutions and so in the evening the two district managers Max Erhardt and Jan Damlos asked those present for their opinion on the items on the agenda of blocking Spitalhofstrasse for the Milchindustrie-Verband eV (MIV), two possible variants for the expansion of the Ostbahnhof area and for traffic management in the area of the Brodkorbweg from Schuhmacherring towards Ostbahnhof.

At the beginning of the event, the citizens present were greeted as usual with a quiz in which questions about Kempten-Ost had to be answered.

This was followed by a broadcast by Allgäu TV that reported on a shopping aid from young people for senior citizens during the lockdown.

This initiative, which is free for senior citizens, was launched by the Stadtjugendring in cooperation with the Bühl Youth Center.

Three resolutions

Then those present were asked for their opinion regarding the closure of Spitalhofstrasse.

13 of the 14 entitled persons voted to block Spitalhofstrasse.

Exceptions should only apply to residents and visitors to the Mikado kindergarten.

The neighborhood managers informed the participants that their decision would be presented to the city committees as a recommendation from the district office.

Before the citizens present were asked to decide on two options for designing the Ostbahnhof area, they were given specific information about these in advance. The first variant is more cost-effective and resource-efficient because it does not require the construction of a single-storey car park at Ostbahnhof. The disadvantage is that one or two fewer bus stations can be created, the basic parking space requirement remains and the bus loop would be smaller. In return, the project could be implemented more quickly. The second variant is to build a multi-storey car park at the Ostbahnhof. That would create more space on the streets, noticeably relieve the pressure on parking spaces in the area, one or two more bus stops and a larger bus loop. Disadvantage: a longer implementation period, greater use of resources and the need for permanent maintenance. With this variant, however, the residents would actually get a permanent parking space, which could cost them up to 70 euros a month. Variant 1 would allow around 90 parking spaces, variant 2 around 180. This is probably one of the reasons why all those present voted unanimously in favor of proposal 2 in the subsequent vote.

Although the decision to develop the Ostbahnhof area was less environmentally friendly, the voters preferred a decision in the third resolution that preferred pedestrians and bicycles to cars.

The decision on how the Brodkobweg traffic routing from the Schumacherring intersection towards the Ostbahnhof passage will look in the future was unanimously in favor of the one-way variant with the Brodkorbweg.

This would create more space on site for pedestrians and bicycles.

Projects go ahead

After the public participation in the decision-making process, Max Erhardt and Jan Damlos summed up ongoing projects in the neighborhood. The arcade café is being accepted more and more and it is developing "into a meeting place for neighborly chatting", as one visitor put it. There is currently an open parent-child meeting there every Wednesday and Friday morning, breakfast with IT consultation hours every first Tuesday morning of the month and a culture café on the last Tuesday of the month. On the nationwide reading day on November 19, exciting stories will also be read to children in the Arkadencafé from noon onwards. On December 10th, cookies are baked in the afternoon.

For the second issue of the district magazine it was announced that the proof is in progress, the issue will go to press on November 12th and will be distributed on December 2nd. There are reports on the Ostbahnhof, the Engelhaldepark and the Jumpline Bachtelweiher.

In November the playgrounds between Bühl and Lenzfried will be upgraded.

By then, the foundations for setting up the bench, table tennis table and slackline should be poured.

On December 6th, there will probably be information stands with public participation for the development of the Saurer-Allma-Quartier.

At the bike park in Engelhaldepark, the civil engineering work is progressing quickly, according to Damlos, so that the asphalting can probably be completed this year.

The two district managers hope that the facility will be officially opened in spring or May, if possible, with a district festival.

By then, a calisthenics facility should also be built on the Lindenberg.
