Munich could provide its residents with more health care through municipal medical centers.

This is the conclusion reached by an expert opinion by the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation.

The study was commissioned by the Left / The Party parliamentary group.

Munich - The background is that, as is well known, the supply of general practitioners and paediatricians in the Bavarian capital is, to put it mildly, unbalanced.

While there is a high density of practices in the central districts, the districts on the outskirts in particular are rather undersupplied (we reported).

Health centers in Munich are supposed to compensate for a shortage of doctors

The opinion of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation now proposes so-called health centers to improve the situation.

In these facilities, doctors join forces and offer outpatient care.

In a study this year, the Robert Bosch Stiftung also came to the conclusion that it would address the expected shortage of general practitioners in 2035 with community health centers.

"Health and the possibility of personal happiness shouldn't depend on where you live," says Linken boss Stefan Jagel.

"But unfortunately this has been a sad truth in Munich for far too long."

Munich: Only 51 doctors for 75 999 people in Milbertshofen

In Lehel, for example, there are 612 general practitioners for 20,960 residents.

In Hasenbergl there are only 45 doctors for 62,270 patients, and in Milbertshofen 51 doctors have to ensure the care of 75,999 people.

The disproportion is also reflected in the pediatricians.

The experts come to the conclusion that the city can positively influence the situation through housing, infrastructure and health-related environmental policies.

In order to set up community health centers, the city would have to make them attractive to doctors, for example by providing the building structure at favorable conditions.

The Health Committee and the Health Unit should also be more closely involved in urban planning.

Jagel: “With communal health centers, we can set up more health care for all Munich residents.

Let's tackle it! "
