Corona situation in Bavaria is coming to a head: The first regions are canceling Christmas markets

On Wednesday the city of Rosenheim * announced that the Christmas market would not take place this year. This decision is based on an emphatic recommendation from the Rosenheim health department. Mayor Andreas März took this step not easily: “I deeply regret that I have to spoil the anticipation of the Christmas market for all those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered. This situation is difficult and disappointing for me, ”he is quoted in the communication. They will even refrain from setting up individual sales stands, a “Winter in Rosenheim” or the “KulTürchen” held last year.

All markets around the Tegernsee in the Miesbach district were also canceled on Wednesday.

Miesbach is one of the districts with the highest incidence figures in Germany.

In Bad Füssing, mulled wine and Co. are also canceled.

The Christmas market in Simbach in the Germany-wide Corona front-runner district of Rottal-Inn will not take place this year.

The district administrator had only spoken out in an emotional statement on Wednesday and asked for help

Fürth district cancels all markets - does the Christkindlesmarkt in Nuremberg have to believe in them too?

A similar decision was made in the central Franconian district of Fürth: The Christmas markets in all 14 district communities had been canceled, the city of Stein announced after a meeting between the mayors and the district administrator.

Meanwhile, preparations for the internationally known Christkindlesmarkt are continuing in Nuremberg. Only last week was the new Christ Child elected, which is due to open this year's market at the end of November. So far there has been no official rejection from the Nuremberg town hall. So the hope that the famous market can take place remains. Likewise in Munich.

Currently, the framework concept still applies in Bavaria, according to which Christmas markets may take place outdoors - without a ban on alcohol.

In an urgency motion, the SPD in the state parliament therefore demands a decision by the state government on the framework in which the markets should now take place.

"The number of corona infections is increasing exponentially, and from November 11th the disaster will also apply in Bavaria," said health policy spokeswoman Ruth Waldmann.

It was high time to adjust the announcements from mid-October, according to which the markets should take place practically without any corona measures, said Waldmann.

Other federal states with lower incidence values have already made decisions.

Bavaria, however, does not.
