The German Vaccination Commission (STIKO) recommended Wednesday to vaccinate those under 30 only with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in the face of the risk of myocarditis for this population caused by Moderna.
Vaccination with Moderna has caused "
mostly benign
"
inflammation
of the heart muscle and pericardium in women and men under 30 years of age.
However, this risk does not exist in people over 30 years of age.

The vaccine commission also recommends that pregnant women be vaccinated with Pfizer-BioNTech alone.
Even with the first Moderna injection, the second and future third doses will have to be BioNTech-Pfizer, recommends the Stiko, whose recommendation has yet to be followed by the German government and regions.
Of about 121.4 million doses administered against Covid-19 in Germany, 92 million were from Pfizer-BioNTech and about 10.3 from Moderna, according to the Robert Koch health watch institute.
