Both because of the corona pandemic and because of environmental pollution, the left in Grafing wanted to ban fireworks on New Year's Eve. Without success.

Both because of the corona pandemic and because of environmental pollution, the left in Grafing wanted to ban fireworks on New Year's Eve.

Without success.

Grafing - The discussion about it returns in the Ebersberg district with the most beautiful regularity, just like the turn of the year. This time it was the Grafinger again. After the joint attempt by the Left and the Greens to enforce a ban on firecrackers in the city was a misfire last year, council member Lena Huppertz (left) single-handedly went back to the council meeting on Tuesday evening. It stayed with the gun. Only five council members raised their hands for a general ban.

There were also good arguments for it.

“As of today we have an incidence of 501, which is very worrying.

The city could act in an exemplary manner, ”said Huppertz for a general ban on firecrackers.

“It is no longer appropriate to pollute the environment in such a way.” In addition, the health care system should not be additionally burdened by the fact that someone burns their hands with Chinabollern on New Year's Eve and then has to go to the hospital.

Possible ban on firecrackers in Grafing: Fireworks cannot be banned on private property

Leonhard Kogler from the administration had done extensive research in this regard. "The police are not aware of any dangerous situations in Grafing," he reported. A query to the City Council also showed that a general ban lacks the legal basis, at least in the event of a lawsuit. "In any case, we would have no way of banning this on private property," said Mayor Christian Bauer (CSU).

Last year he had argued that he felt it was disproportionate to forbid families with children from launching a few rockets.

He stayed that way.

"Only the pyrotechnics companies would complain," said Ottilie Eberl (Greens).

She advocated banning firecrackers "at least on the market square".

“It's a cruel mess,” she said of the state of the center on New Year's Day.

There, however, the building yard does the quickest cleanup work every year to dispose of these leftovers.

Nevertheless, there were voices that the celebrants should kindly take their filth with them.

Possible ban on firecrackers in Grafing: Leftists are also calling for a ban on pyrotechnics

The request of the left, however, went even further: in their opinion, it should even be forbidden to carry pyrotechnic objects with you on New Year's Eve.

Tricky: This would theoretically make it impossible for the Grafingers to fire outside of Grafing, because transport to a party outside would come under the ban.

Huppertz had another suggestion: for the turn of the year 2022/2023, the city should examine the implementation of an alternative New Year's Eve concept.

A light show could also take place in the center.

Every year at the turn of the year, the Germans would blow up 120 million euros.

Possible firecracker ban in Grafing: City wants to try an alternative New Year's Eve in 2022

"In principle, the flaring of fireworks is superfluous," said Josef Biesenberger (Greens).

“They come from China,” he added, without specifying what exactly he meant by that.

Thomas Huber (CSU) pointed out something else: "The animals suffer, you don't like to watch that." Of course, he also admitted: "Politicians are getting too involved." "The city of Grafing should be an alternative for everyone offer ”, Huppertz stuck to her application, which was granted at least a partial success.

The ban on firecrackers fell through, stating that the city should think about an alternative New Year's Eve concept next year.
