The pedestrian bridge over the Glonn in Hohenkammer has been renewed.

Now the community is hoping that the bike path from the neighboring community of Petershausen will be extended.

Hohenkammer - It's the year of bridges: The municipality of Hohenkammer currently has its hands full with large and small bridge construction sites.

The renewal of the Glonnbrücke for the idyllic cycle path from Hohenkammer to Herschenhofen has now been completed.

Mayor Mario Berti announced that the dilapidated structure had been spruced up with great work by the building yard team at only around 5000 euros in material costs.

The cycle path crosses the Glonn not far from the castle grounds and leads along the river past Herschenhofen to the municipal boundary.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

For years, the community of Hohenkammer has been hoping that the neighboring community of Petershausen (district of Dachau) will extend the cycle path and then create an attractive and safe connection to the local S-Bahn station.

The mayor of Petershausen is quite willing with regard to his part of the cycle path, but he lacks important properties that are difficult to buy.

"We clearly prefer this route," says Hohenkammer's town hall chief Mario Berti, "because the cyclist is then immediately on the right side of the Glonn and would be able to get to the train station safely in Petershausen."

Not included in the cycle route plan

It's different with Plan B: In the past, there were always thoughts of planning a cycle path when renovating the ailing state road between Hohenkammer and Petershausen.

The road has recently been poorly straightened in some areas, and Berti was also informed by the State Building Authority that a corresponding cycle path had not been included in the Bavarian cycle path plan from 2020 to 2024.

So a bike connection to the train station and thus the better accessibility of public transport remains difficult.

Another improvement is coming

At least things are moving forward on a different front: from December, the express buses are planned in the timetable, with which citizens from Hohenkammer can reach the Lohhof S-Bahn station within around 20 minutes.

The municipality has fought for such a connection to the rail network for many years.

Mario Berti emphasizes that such a high-speed bus would be a significant improvement in making Munich accessible without your own car.

With that you haven't lost sight of the bike path options towards Petershausen.

With the renewed bridge of the cycle path, the municipality has given its possible signal.
