Possenhofen - At the start of the second lockdown in November 2020, Verena and Christoph Ziesel opened the Gasthof Schauer in Possenhofen - after an eventful year with many ups and downs, the two of them came to the conclusion: And it turned out very well.

"We have even won a number of regular guests in the past twelve months," says Verena Ziesel, describing the change from great concern to cautious serenity. Because with the Gasthof Schauer, the gastro couple, who previously worked for a catering company, have taken over a prominent address in the middle of town. And the people of Possenhofen appreciated “the revitalization of the village square”, according to Verena Ziesel, with a small chapel in front of the inn not far from the former Sisi Castle. For the first seven months, the tenant couple entertained their guests exclusively with take-away food to collect - from wooden stalls in front of the restaurant. And the customers came from the beginning and remained loyal to them, both are happy.

At the end of May, the Ziesels were allowed to open their two terraces, later the interior area, which consists of three guest rooms.

So she was finally able to present the sometimes complex renovations in the over 200 year old inn to her guests.

They both knew that they might open at the same time as the second lockdown.

"Burying your head in the sand was out of the question," emphasizes Verena Ziesel.

"After this start, hardly anything can come that knocks us out," adds Christoph Ziesel.

When they opened, they immediately registered short-time work for their employees - all 14 were able to keep them. In the meantime they have even hired eleven more people, with temporary help in the kitchen and in service, the Ziesel now has 25 employees. "None of this would have been possible without short-time work and a compromise on the lease," emphasizes Verena Ziesel. The “positive feedback” from customers also motivated the two. "That helped us a lot," says Verena Ziesel.

Both have rather mixed feelings about the upcoming winter.

"We hope for good Christmas business," said Christoph Ziesel.

The hospital traffic light is now red, which means that the 2G rule applies to the catering trade.

So only recovered or vaccinated guests may be received.

They remain confident, after all, they already have many inquiries for Christmas with up to 40 to 50 people.

The first reservations are also being made for New Year's Eve.

Verena and Christoph Ziesel are going “positively into the end of the year” in the next two months, as are many other restaurants around the lake.
