Next logical step? Virologist calls for 1G rule - "particularly useful in one area"

Not everyone has made friends with 3G and 2G yet, but for some virologists there is already a third alternative.

A Hamburg virologist is now talking about an additional tightening: the 1G rule.

Munich - Vaccinated, recovered, tested - with PCR or rapid test - many Germans are finding it increasingly difficult to keep track of applicable corona measures.

Virologist Jonas Schmidt-Chanasit is now bringing a new option into play and is in favor of a 1G rule.

According to the 3G rule, only those who have been vaccinated, tested and recovered are allowed to take part in large parts of public life, such as restaurants, concerts and events.

With 3G + it has to be a CPR test, a quick test is no longer enough.

2G is even stricter.

Tests are no longer accepted.

So with 1G one would catch up again.

Virologist: 2G creates "sham security"

Similar to virologist Hendrick Streeck, Schmidt-Chanasit also criticized the effect of the 2G model and suggested that it could create a false sense of security.

He had also spoken out strongly in favor of booster vaccinations.

Vaccinated people can still transmit Corona and become infected with it, emphasized Schmidt-Chanasit.

The fact that these could possibly exclude themselves from the fight against pandemics is counterproductive.

1G could remedy this.

However, this does not mean that only those who have been vaccinated will be allowed to go to concerts or the cinema in the future, as is already the case in Costa Rica, for example.

1G: compulsory testing for everyone as a way out of the pandemic?

Rather, the Jonas Schmidt-Chanasit regulation is the same for everyone after compulsory testing.

Regardless of whether vaccinated, recovered or unvaccinated, anyone who wants to take part in public life would then have to be tested.

This is particularly useful in areas where vulnerable people are at risk, emphasized Schmidt-Chanasit in the

NDR interview.

It is not about “testing wherever possible”, but, for example, in nursing homes and hospitals.

In general, the virologist warned against testing less instead of more and criticized the fact that the free citizen tests had been abolished.
