Pfizer announced today (Tuesday) that it has applied to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for an emergency approval to provide "booster" doses of corona vaccines to all 18-year-olds and older.
The company said that Phase 3 trials among more than 10,000 people found that giving the booster provides 95% efficacy against symptomatic infection in the corona.
The vaccine company took this step after the US Food and Drug Administration's advisory committee decided about weeks ago to grant emergency approval for the use of Pfizer's vaccine in 11-5 year olds.
The decision was made by a majority of 17 supporters against one abstention.

Pfizer's request was to grant the vaccine to children on an emergency basis, but in fact it is a request for use for all intents and purposes until full approval.
The dose of vaccine for children is actually one-third of the dose of vaccine for adults.
Similar to the familiar vaccine, Pfizer's application for children also included the injection of two vaccine doses (adapted for children) at least three weeks apart.
