The Munich infectiologist Christoph Spinner does not currently consider a new lockdown * to be helpful, despite the massively increasing corona numbers.

"In my opinion, broad booster vaccinations * for people who were vaccinated more than six months ago are crucial for the winter," Spinner continued. Studies have shown that this could prevent up to 95 percent of symptomatic infections. "Due to the nationwide increase in the number of infections, we have to act as quickly as possible here."

On the question of whether the third vaccination makes sense for under 70-year-olds, Spinner said, there was increasing evidence that the vaccinations would offer additional effective protection for all adults, regardless of age.

Above all, older people are better protected from hospital admissions and severe courses.

"Even in schools, everything imaginable should be done to increase the vaccination rate wherever possible," said Spinner.

Until then, the consistent application of the AHA + L rules (distance, hygiene, everyday mask and ventilation) could reduce the corona risk.

"Without vaccinations or consistent AHA + L rules, a further increase in the number of infections in schools must be expected."
