The long-awaited groundbreaking ceremony for the extension of the “Rainbow” daycare complex in Schongau finally took place.

As early as August 2022, there should be space for two additional groups.

Schongau

- It is hard to imagine that a building complex will be here in nine months. Broken clods of earth cover the ground, it is slippery and sturdy shoes are a must to move safely on the site. The construction site situation is just being set up. But architect Sebastian Böse - like Schongau's mayor Falk Sluyterman (SPD) - is confident: “It'll work,” he remarked optimistically at the groundbreaking on the area at Bahnhofstrasse 36. As reported, the “Regenbogen” kindergarten there will be expanded to include two more groups with sanitary rooms, an entrance area and an office.

The necessary fundamental decision was made in September 2020 - at a time when Schongau had also hit it hard because of the corona pandemic. That is why the start of the project, which cost around 1.8 million euros, has been protracted so far. The building is scheduled to go into operation in August next year. It is therefore a sigh of relief for everyone involved, the town hall chief spoke of a “nice appointment”, one that he does not see as a compulsory task, but gratefully accepts. “We have waited a long time for this, but now the time has come. It's great that everyone has shown up so much patience, ”he added, referring to Sandra Bergmann, the head of the existing facility.

She, too, was clearly delighted with the start of construction, because the need is great: the daycare center has been bursting at the seams for years, and the number of registrations exceeds the contingent of free places available every year.

Funding for kindergarten extension in Schongau

Pleasing: In addition to the already approved funding based on municipal services of general interest - the so-called FAG funds - there are further grants: The city receives around 322,000 euros from the government of Upper Bavaria, the money comes from a funding pot for the financing of childcare facilities for the period 2017 to 2021.

It took all the work and expertise of the city's deputy building director, Robert Thomas, to secure the grants, Sluyterman praised.

The relevant applications were submitted in March of this year - just in time to secure approval by the end of the year.

The redeeming news came just a few weeks ago: on October 26, the city authorities informed the city that the funds had been released.
