Kaufbeuren / District - "We are disappointed, in principle the families affected here in the region are still completely in the air," describes Wolfgang Neumayer, 1st chairman of Lebenshilfe Ostallgäu, the decision of the petitions committee of the Bavarian state parliament. This recently dealt with the petition by Lebenshilfe Ostallgäu for the implementation of a social pediatric center (SPZ) at the Kaufbeuren Clinic. The state government supports the matter, but it can no longer do anything because of the ongoing proceedings, can be deduced from the statement. Lebenshilfe has now submitted the lawsuit to the social court.

Kaufbeuren / District - "We are disappointed, in principle the families affected here in the region are still completely in the air," describes Wolfgang Neumayer, 1st chairman of Lebenshilfe Ostallgäu, the decision of the petitions committee of the Bavarian state parliament. This recently dealt with the petition from Lebenshilfe Ostallgäu for the implementation of a social pediatric center (SPZ) at the Kaufbeuren Clinic. The state government supports the matter, but it can no longer do anything because of the ongoing proceedings, can be deduced from the statement. Lebenshilfe has now submitted the lawsuit to the social court.

After the joint application by Lebenshilfe Ostallgäu and the Kaufbeuren Clinic for the sponsorship of an SPZ in Kaufbeuren was rejected in the first instance by the admissions committee, which is made up of representatives of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians and the health insurance companies, and its appeal committee has now been rejected, the case is now the legal dispute with himself.

"We will continue to fight to ensure that affected families in the region are supported," said Neumayer.

"Because these are the main leaders when bureaucratic procedures like this drag on for years." When the application will be dealt with before the competent social court in Munich is still completely open.

Years of collaboration

For around four years now, Lebenshilfe and the clinic have been trying to set up a social pediatric center (SPZ) in which children and young people with developmental disorders and severe disabilities can be treated (the Kreisbote reported several times). The two offices have been working closely together for years. Wolfgang Neumayer makes it clear: "We know what children and young people with a disability need." The support for such a center is great: from affected parents, resident specialists, politicians and even the only special care center in the region in Memmingen.

In addition, Lebenshilfe Ostallgäu started an online petition in spring and mobilized around 2,600 people to support the project with a signature.

"In principle, we could start immediately here in Kaufbeuren, the framework conditions are all in place," says Prof. Dr.

Markus Rauchenzauner, chief physician of pediatric and adolescent medicine at the Kaufbeuren Clinic, is sobering about the course of the application.

“The supply bottlenecks that result from long waiting times and cannot be reversed later can be avoided,” says the doctor.

Great burden for relatives

Nothing will change in the foreseeable future in terms of long waiting times and journeys, because an out-of-court solution is off the table.

"It is important that we stay tuned and fight as advocates for the many affected children, young people and their families," the chairman of Lebenshilfe, Wolfgang Neumayer, reinforces the urgency of an SPC in the region.

"Of course we hope that the social court will deal with our proceedings as soon as possible."
