Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven stepped down today, paving the way for the new leader of the Social Democratic Party, Magdalena Andersen, to become the country's first woman to hold the position.
And the Associated Press quoted Parliament Speaker Andreas Norlin as saying that "Leuven will continue to serve as caretaker prime minister until the formation of the new government."
For his part, Lofven said, "These seven years have been amazing and I am very proud of the honor to lead the country during these years."
Lofven has served as Sweden's prime minister since October 2014.
