Those who wanted to get vaccinated against Corona needed patience in many places in Munich: Because the demand for the protective prick has increased in recent days.

We answer the most important questions.

Long queues in front of the Corona vaccination centers: In the last few days, some Munich residents have apparently decided to get vaccinated against Corona after all - and many others got the booster pricks.

"The number of first vaccinations is slight and the number of third vaccinations has increased significantly," says a spokesman for the health department.

Between October 31 and November 7, there were 4844 first, 6852 second and 11995 booster vaccinations.

There is also a great rush in doctors' surgeries: "The demand for booster vaccinations has increased," explains family doctor Markus Frühwein.

Where do you vaccinate?

The Riem Vaccination Center is open Sunday to Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5.45 p.m. and Wednesdays until 9 p.m.

There you can register for the vaccination in advance.

At Theresienwiese (Monday to Friday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.), in the Pasing Arcaden (Monday to Saturday: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.), in the district administration department (Monday to Friday: 10.30 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and in the former Sport Münzinger (daily 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.) anyone can get vaccinated without an appointment.

In addition, there are mobile special vaccination campaigns (information: www.muenchen.de) and the vaccination offers of the practices.

Who can have their vaccination boosted?

In Munich, anyone who received a second vaccination at least six months ago can get the booster vaccination.

The topic is handled differently: In other districts, the booster is sometimes only offered six months after the complete completion of the immunization - i.e. 14 days later.

The Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) recommends it especially for people over 70 years of age, people with immunodeficiency, residents and staff in care facilities as well as medical staff.

For people with severe immunodeficiency, a third dose is already approved four weeks after the second vaccination.

Anyone who has been vaccinated with Johnson & Johnson can have the vaccination boosted after four weeks with Biontech or Moderna.

What do I have to bring with me for the third vaccination?

For the booster vaccination, proof of the vaccinations that have already been carried out (vaccination certificate or vaccination certificate) as well as an identity card or passport is required.

Registration on www.impfzentren.bayern is desired in order to speed up the process on site.

“The profiles on BayIMCO have been deleted.

We are therefore happy when people register themselves again before the third vaccination before they visit the vaccination center, ”says Sophie Stegmann from the vaccination center.

How long are the waiting times at the vaccination centers?

"This varies," says the health department.

The location on Theresienwiese, for example, is very popular.

Only a certain number of vaccinations can be done per day.

"There can be long waiting times because the rush for the booster vaccinations is great and we suffer from a lack of staff," says Stegmann.

“Without an appointment, you should have time and patience.

At the vaccination center in Riem, we try to meet the deadlines. ”The city is planning to extend the opening times: From November 20, the vaccination center in Riem will open again on Saturdays.

Which vaccine can I choose?

All vaccines are available at the vaccination stations.

Only the mRNA vaccinations from Biontech and Moderna are used for the booster vaccinations.

The Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) recommends that young adults under the age of 30 and pregnant women only be vaccinated with the Biontech vaccine.

People vaccinated with Astrazeneca and Johnson & Johnson also receive an mRNA vaccination.

Should you do an antibody test?

No, says Markus Frühwein.

He advises against making a booster vaccination dependent on the result.

"A booster can prevent almost all vaccination breakthroughs," he explains.

"Everyone will need it in the long term." Vaccine is available, but of course the capacities of the practices are limited.

Sophie Stegmann from the vaccination center also had a “crisp week” behind her.

"It would have been good if the Ministry of Health had informed us about the broad start of third-party vaccinations - before they announced it publicly last week," she says.
