The clinics in Lower Saxony fear that predictable operations will soon have to be postponed.
The reason is the increasing number of Covid sufferers.

Hanover - The care of seriously ill corona patients poses challenges for the hospitals in Lower Saxony. The Lower Saxony Hospital Society announced on Wednesday that a high level of personnel expenditure is necessary, especially for Covid intensive cases. "The situation is currently exacerbated by the fact that many clinics are currently unable to fully operate their intensive care capacities due to a lack of nursing staff," it said. The reasons are therefore dismissals, reduced working hours and internal job changes. "The reason for this is the ongoing stress on staff due to the corona pandemic."
Because of the high and rapidly increasing number of infected people, the hospitals expect that the number of Covid sufferers in the clinics will continue to increase.
"Experience shows that the hospitalization rate and, in particular, the utilization of the intensive care capacities follow the infection process with a time lag and will therefore continue to grow in the foreseeable future," said the hospital company.
The supply of intensive capacities in Lower Saxony is currently and foreseeable.
But: In order to relieve hospitals and staff and to maintain sufficient intensive care capacities, it is of the utmost importance that all people who can be vaccinated do so.
Accordingly, the vast majority of seriously ill Covid patients do not have a corona vaccination.

The hospital company did not have any indications that Lower Saxony clinics had to postpone planned operations because of too many corona sufferers by Wednesday.
"The situation in the hospitals is increasingly tense," it said.
It is to be expected that planned and less urgent interventions will be postponed again in the foreseeable future in order to have additional human resources for the Covid supply.
The Berlin Charité University Medicine has been canceling all planned interventions since Tuesday.
The increasing number of Covid-19 patients make this step necessary, said a spokesman.
