Advocate Osama Khatib, 33, from Kfar Kanna, was charged this morning (Thursday) in the Nazareth District Court with the shooting of the house of Chief of Staff Jamal Khachrush in the locality about two months ago. The indictment attributes to the defendants weapons offenses, as well as changing the identity of a vehicle and aiding and abetting a vehicle to aid crime.

The indictment states that Khatib felt feelings of resentment and anger towards Khachrush, after it intervened in a family conflict in the village of Kanna in violation of Khatib's interests.

Therefore, it was alleged, he contacted Abu Samra, equipped with an M-16 rifle and two cartridges.

On September 10, the two met in the Beit Keshet forest, exchanged the license plate in Abu Samra's car, left their phones in Khatib's vehicle, loaded two cartridges with bullets and drove towards Khachrush's house.

According to the indictment, Abu Samra was the one who was driving, and under the direction of Khatib he stopped near the house.

Khatib, it was alleged, then got out of the vehicle and fired five bullets at the car park door - which penetrated the door, passed over Khachrush's vehicle and hit the wall.

Khachrush and his wife were at home at the time.

For Abu Samra's assistance, the brigade paid him $ 2,000.

Because the GSS investigated the affair, the suspects were prevented from meeting a lawyer during the first days of detention. According to attorneys Gil Dvir and Shmuel Barzani, who represent Khatib, Security offenses.

These are low-level criminal offenses.

We learn from the indictment that the motive is the intervention of a police officer in a conflict between hawkish families in the village.

"There was no place for the GSS investigation, which expropriates the basic rights of a suspect in this matter."

Khachrush is the most senior Muslim in the police force and the head of the new crime prevention division in Arab society, which was launched last summer.
