As of next week, there will be no entry for unvaccinated people in Munich's restaurants, bars and pubs.
Even if the guests are mostly vaccinated, the restaurateurs are now afraid of heavy losses.
No restaurant visit without vaccination or proof of recovery - 2G should apply to Munich from next week, as Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter announced on Thursday.
Criticism comes from Thomas Geppert, the state manager of the Bavarian hotel and restaurant association Dehoga.
“Nervous actionism doesn't help anyone,” he says.
"The hospitality industry is safe."
This is also emphasized by landlady and Dehoga President Angela Inselkammer.
“We are not pandemic drivers,” she explains.
"The gastro has to fight anyway, and such signs will damage it further." The current regulations are sufficient.
"In fact, almost all guests come with a vaccination certificate anyway."
99 percent of his guests are vaccinated, confirms Christian Schottenhamel from Paulaner am Nockherberg.
“We would prefer 3G +,” he says.
“At 2G, the fear remains that people will lose their desire to go to the restaurant if a family member or friend has to stay outside.” The aim is to increase the pressure on the unvaccinated.
Rightly so, believes Schottenhamel.
“Getting vaccinated is simply a social duty now.” He hopes that not all Christmas parties will end because of 2G - or that the catering industry will have to close again and destroy vast amounts of goods.
Munich: restaurateurs are worried about the Christmas season
"Cancellations every hour" have already been received, says Lukas Spendler from Hirschau.
“It's going to be a hard winter,” he fears.
The situation is also difficult for employees who may have to go back to short-time work and do not receive a tip.
Hofbräukeller boss Silja schrank-Steinberg also complains of many Christmas party cancellations.
“December is the most important winter month for us,” she says.
“The uncertainty is great.” At least she hopes that the à la carte business will continue despite 2G.
"The guests appreciate the fact that we have strict controls."
Meike Will from the Baader Café in the Glockenbachviertel also counts on that.
“2G won't be that bad for us.
Our guests are all vaccinated.
Hardly anyone comes with a PCR test right now, ”she says.
But there is still something that annoys many restaurateurs, as Julia Krätz from Andechser am Dom reports: “Nobody knows anything about the permanent changes.” At first, the mask requirement was relaxed - and now there are again such tightenings.
"But we can't change it anyway."
