After a scree fall on the B11 on the Kesselberg, the village of Walchensee is cut off from the outside world to the north.

Many residents now have to take long detours.

Walchensee

- Because the Kesselberg is closed, Walchensee cannot currently be reached from the north.

People who have to go to work sometimes take long detours.

The baker has stopped the delivery service, and schoolchildren are brought to the secondary school in Schlehdorf by taxi - via Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

But everyone carries it with composure.

Closure on the Kesselberg is expected until Thursday evening

Armin Ebersberger, one of the two managing directors of “Dorfleben Walchensee”, describes the fact that nobody was harmed in the big fall of trees and rubble on Saturday morning at Kesselberg: “Usually on a Saturday it is good weather Already a lot going on in the morning. "

Because of the clean-up work, the B11 between Kochel and Urfeld will probably remain completely closed until Thursday evening.

By then, the worst damage should be repaired, so that traffic could at least drive past the danger zone on one side with a traffic light control.

Kesselberg lock: Citizens of Walchensee wear lock with frame

The Walchensee citizens and businesses bear the blockage with composure.

Frank Sommerschuh, who commutes daily from Walchensee to Miesbach for his job, drives across the Jachenau.

"It's a challenge, but there is no other way," says the Free Voters Council.

When the building committee meeting was recently in the evening, he drove from Miesbach to Kochel and then home via Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Walchensee children who have to go to secondary school in Schlehdorf are taken there by taxi via Garmisch.

The service is provided by a company from Krün.

Departure is at 6.30 a.m.

"The Tölzer district office was very helpful here and quickly organized it," says Sommerschuh, whose son is affected, happily.

Walchensee affected by the Kesselberg closure: everyday life in kindergarten and school is different

Even in kindergarten and elementary school, everyday life is different than usual.

Six or seven employees from “Dorfleben Walchensee” only come to their workplace in a roundabout way and then stand in front of smaller groups.

Around 20 boys and girls are currently missing.

“The kindergarten children from the valley stay at home.

Because transporting the little ones via Garmisch would be too time-consuming, ”says Armin Ebersberger.

The primary school students do homeschooling.

“The teachers try hard not to teach too many new things these days.

That should happen when everyone is back so that the learning progress is the same, ”says Ebersberger.

With regard to the overall situation at the lake, he says with a smile: "We are improvisation world champions here."

The people of Walchensee currently have to do without fresh pretzels, rolls and bread in the village shop.

Master baker Toni Lugauer from Benediktbeuern does not accept the detour.

“It's not economically viable,” he says.

Because of the Kesselberg closure: Sanka comes to Walchensee from Mittenwald or Garmisch

“We go to Wallgau to go shopping,” reports Lisa Grünwald.

Together with her husband Alois and other people from Walchensee, who mainly work full-time in the rescue service, they take care of medical emergencies on a voluntary basis as “on-site helpers”.

"Thank God nothing has happened in the past few days," reports Alois Grünwald.

In an emergency, the Sanka comes from Mittenwald or Garmisch or a helicopter.

Alois Grünwald was stationed as an emergency paramedic at the BRK in Lenggries in the past few days and drove via Jachenau as usual.

It would be harder for their sons, the Grünwalds report: The boys have to drive via Garmisch to Penzberg and Starnberg - the latter takes an hour and 40 minutes.

"All people from Walchensee who can currently work from home are happy."

Closure on the Kesselberg: day-trippers to the Jochberg, Heimgarten and Herzogstand stay away

In terms of tourism, the lake is of course much less busy than usual. "This mainly affects day-trippers who come from the north and want to visit Jochberg, Heimgarten and Herzogstand when the weather is nice," says Daniel Weickel, head of the tourism department at the town hall in Kochel .

Hotel businesses and mountain railways feel this - but they too bear it with composure. “It's not the first time,” says Jörg Findeisen, Managing Director of the Herzogstandbahn, and remembers the avalanches in winter. Nevertheless: Business falls through the water for the mountain railway. "We have 60 to 65 percent fewer guests." Especially with the beautiful autumn weather in the past few days, "we would have liked to have earned more money in the final spurt". The railway will be overhauled this year on Monday, November 15th.

Sighing, but also composed, Kamil Dzygalo from the Hotel Karwendelblick in Urfeld assesses the situation.

"We have dead pants," says the managing director.

There are hardly any day tourists.

Apart from a cancellation, at least the hotel guests remained loyal to the Walchensee.

"They are not thrilled to have to take such a detour, and that with these gasoline prices." Nevertheless, they would all say: "Mei, that's the way it is."
