The chairman of the AfD parliamentary group, Alice Weidel, was infected with the corona virus.

A parliamentary group spokesman confirmed this on request.

She tested herself after she had flu-like symptoms.

The 42-year-old went into quarantine at home.

Weidel had repeatedly emphasized in the federal election campaign that she was not vaccinated and sharply criticized the corona measures taken by the federal and state governments.

On October 22nd it became known that Tino Chrupalla, co-leader of the AfD, had tested positive for Covid-19.

He too had gone into quarantine at home.

Chrupalla, who is also party leader, did not take part in the constituent session of the new Bundestag on October 26th.

Chrupalla had always kept the question of whether he had been vaccinated against the corona virus open and emphasized that vaccination was a private matter.

Bundestag only under 3G conditions

Meanwhile, it was decided by parliament - against the votes of the AfD - that the Bundestag will initially only meet under 3G conditions until the end of January.

Access to the lower area of the plenary hall is only given to members who have been vaccinated, recovered or who have currently tested negative, as Bundestag President Bärbel Bas (SPD) explained.

Those who cannot prove this have to take a seat in the stands.

The mask requirement also remains.

The AfD had already tried in the constituent session of the Bundestag in October to overturn the 3G regulation.

However, it failed due to resistance from the other factions.

Bas now also pointed out that violations by MPs can be punished through parliamentary regulatory law.

This provides for a fine of 1000 euros and, in the case of recurrence, of 2000 euros.

Unlike Weidel, several top politicians of the AfD have already had themselves vaccinated.

These include Alexander Gauland and Jörg Meuthen, among others.
