They advocate to amend the immigration regulations so that as long as one of the parents is a British national (overseas), that is, BNO, people can be eligible to apply for a BNO visa.
According to the British civil organization "Hong Kong Watch" (Hong Kong Watch) member Luke de Pulford (Luke de Pulford) pointed out on Twitter on November 10, if the revised proposal is passed successfully, it will benefit Hong Kong people born after 1997.
The United Kingdom will allow eligible Hong Kong people to apply for BNO visas since January 2021. Those who are approved can stay in the UK for up to 5 years, then apply for settlement after 5 years, and then apply to become British citizens after one year of residence.
At present, non-BNO adults born after the reunification in 1997 can use the status of "dependant" to apply to go to the UK with a parent holding BNO. The UK will decide whether to grant a visa at its discretion.
