Vötting parents demand from the city: Griesfeldstrasse must become safer.

According to a statement, the city has already taken steps.

Freising

- Parents from Vöttingen sound the alarm and call on the city to act: Griesfeldstrasse must become safer. With this they are apparently running into open doors: The city has already taken steps after a statement. The mothers Katrin Geiger and Veronika Herfellner, who joined forces with other citizens of Vötting to form the “Junction Griesfeldstrasse” initiative, describe the situation: “To reach the Mitterfeld residential area, the Vötting elementary school or the start-up center in Vötting on foot or by bike , the route along Gregor-Mendel Strasse on the edge of the Weihenstephan campus and the route around the Vötting elementary school are very popular. School children and a large number of cyclists, walkers and joggers of all ages are out and about there every day.But there is a lack of safe and cyclist-friendly paths. ”With the extension of the Vötting elementary school, including a daycare center and a new sports hall,“ even more people will use this route ”.

The situation

What parents like Geiger and Herfellner are particularly concerned about: Since the roundabout at the intersection of Griesfeld / Thalhauser Strasse and Weihenstephaner Ring was completed in July and Griesfeldstrasse was reopened for regular traffic, “has been the transition point from one end of the bicycle and footpath to the other difficult and especially dangerous for children ”. Geiger: “Because the cycle path coming from Gregor-Mendel-Straße suddenly ends a few meters before it joins Lise-Meitner-Straße. Due to the curvature of the road, the Griesfeldstrasse in the direction of the roundabout cannot be seen from the end of the cycle path. So you first have to walk a bit on the narrow Griesfeldstraße to get to the bike path in the direction of the Vötting elementary school. ”And:Because of the barriers at the beginning of the cycle path, the children would be kept unnecessarily long on Griesfeldstraße. The parents are more than concerned and sum up: "Crossing Griesfeldstrasse is feasible for experienced road users, but life-threatening for families and children."

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

City contacted several times

According to Geiger, the city of Freising was "repeatedly pointed out by concerned parents" to the danger area and asked to take immediate action.

But so far nothing has happened.

That is why the parents' initiative has now been founded.

It is their concern that, from now on, motorists should be warned by warning signs and flashing systems of people crossing Griesfeldstrasse at the end of the cycle path.

As further immediate measures, the cutting back of the embankment greening and the removal of the site fences on Griesfeldstrasse for better visibility and free travel are required.

The possibility of a lane marking in the crossing area should also be checked.

The goals

“However, the aim must be for a set of traffic lights to ensure that pedestrians and cyclists can safely cross Griesfeldstrasse,” write the spokespersons for the parents' initiative.

And: "In order to optimize the flow of traffic for all road users and to overcome the narrow streets in Griesfeldstrasse, the construction of a foot and bicycle bridge is essential." The TUM anniversary bridge opened in 2018 over Thalhauser Strasse, which is the heart of the campus with the Hans -Eisenmann-Zentrum can serve as a model here.

Pedestrians and cyclists want immediate and long-term effective measures for safe road crossing.

The city administration explained

As the city announced in response to an FT request, "the information formulated by some concerns is known, which the traffic authorities checked and coordinated, among other things, in consultation with the police".

In the area of the crossing in Lise-Meitner-Straße, according to press spokeswoman Christl Steinhart, “the installation of signs saying 'Attention children' was commissioned”.

In the area of Griesfeld- / Gregor-Mendel-Straße, a sign saying “Warning pedestrians” will also be installed.

In order to further address the complainants' concerns, an investigation is currently being carried out on the basis of the mobility officer’s proposal options into the implementation of a provisional crossing aid in the area of Gregor-Mendel-Strasse and Griesfeldstrasse to improve pedestrian and bicycle crossings.
