French in London: is it really necessary to take out private health insurance?

OUR ADVICE - The UK healthcare system is very different from ours. Admittedly free, it presents some disadvantages which push some to subscribe to a health insurance. But is it really essential? Le Figaro enlightens you.


Some will have experienced it when they arrive in London: making an appointment with a general practitioner or a specialist can be an obstacle course, with waiting times of at least three weeks and express consultations.

Dental care is covered at a minimum, while the optics are absolutely not ... In general, opting only for the public system may prove to be insufficient for some expatriates.

There is therefore the possibility of subscribing to private health insurance, but this has a significant cost.

Several options are then presented to expatriates.

The first: British private insurance, commonly known as Private Medical Insurance (PMI).

Employers, at their discretion, can offer it to their employees or it is possible to subscribe to it yourself.

Several companies are well established such as Vitality, Bupa, Axa, Aviva ...
