Instead of 1.75 million conversion: Now probably only a mini solution for connection to a new fire station

The connection to the new Unterföhringen fire station should cost 1.75 million euros. But now the PWU and CSU have voted for a minimum expansion.

The connection to the new Unterföhringen fire station should cost 1.75 million euros.

But now the PWU and CSU have voted for a minimum expansion.

Unterföhring

- Completely surprisingly, the Unterföhring town hall threw the painstakingly worked out solution for the connection of the fire department equipment house overboard. After a series of misguided ideas, "Variant 4" seemed to have found a feasible way of integrating the future home of the fire brigade into traffic. But suddenly the solution variant is opposed to a "minimal expansion". Against the loud protests, especially by the SPD, the initiative carried out by the PWU and CSU prevailed with 5 to 4 votes in the building committee. Tomorrow, Thursday, the local council will deal with the matter.

Whether the decision will endure shouldn't just be a question of the majority.

After the previous proposals all turned out to be unworkable and the state building authority refused to give its blessing, the parliamentary groups seemed to have reached an unreserved agreement on "Option 4".

Compared to previous approaches, this variant provides for a single-lane expansion of Münchner Straße at the level of the new fire brigade station in the Mitterfeldallee to Isarweg section in both directions.

More green should be planted for a calculated 1.75 million euros.

Pedestrians and cyclists would find additional space, sidewalks and cycle paths widened to three meters instead of 2.50 meters.

A zebra crossing is planned at the Brunnbachlweg bus stop.

"1.75 million euros for 300 meters of road conversion are simply too expensive for me."

At the latest meeting of the building committee, the municipality suddenly countered the package full of good deeds with the “minimum expansion”.

No additional green;

less space for pedestrians and cyclists;

no space for sufficiently wide sidewalks and bike paths.

Instead, one is satisfied with removing road markings and milling off the asphalt surface course.

Vice-Mayor Manuel Prieler (PWU), who directed in the absence of Andreas Kemmelmeyer (PWU), indicated that he sympathized with “minimal”: “1.75 million euros for 300 meters of road conversion are simply too expensive for me.” The Minimal expansion, on the other hand, would level off at 310,000 euros.

A huge saving compared to "Option 4".

City council decides

Stefan Zehetmair (PWU) shares Prieler's view. "Variant 4" would entail too violent an encroachment on Münchner Strasse. "The flow of traffic in the direction of Munich would not be guaranteed." Zehetmair does not allow himself to be confused by simulations to the contrary: "In the past we have been surprised more than once."

For Jutta Schödl and Thomas Weingärtner (both SPD), however, the 1.75 million euros in Münchner Straße 60 would be very well invested: Traffic would be slowed down, noise from trees would be reduced, cyclists and pedestrians would be better protected: "Unterföhring gains in quality of life!" Both criticize the minimal expansion as "wasted money".

For 310,000 euros just mill a bit of markings here and a little bit of asphalt there, said Weingärtner: “When I see what we would get for 1.75 million euros ...” He encouraged the community to “take heart in hand ".

In other words, to connect the fire brigade equipment house to the traffic according to "Variant 4".

The municipal council now has the final say.
