Italy has granted nationality to a famous Afghan magistrate, Maria Bashir, the first female attorney general in the country, evacuated in September during the American withdrawal, we learned on Thursday.

Maria Bashir, 51, had become in 2009 attorney general of the province of Herat, in western Afghanistan, where she had fought corruption, violence against women and forced child marriage.
At the end of the 1990s, the Taliban deprived her of her position.

It was a particularly cruel time for women. everyone was afraid to go to work and I too had to stay home. I then opened an underground school at home, for the girls in the neighborhood,
”she confided in 2010 in an interview with the United Nations Office against Drugs and Crime. In 2011, she received the International Woman of Courage Award from the US State Department. And that same year, Forbes magazine ranked her among the top 100 most influential people in the world.

", motivated the Council of Ministers which endorsed the decision Wednesday evening .

," for her part reacted Thursday in a statement the Minister of Justice, Marta Cartabia , who had greeted Ms Bashir upon her arrival in Rome on September 9.
