Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations Dmitry Polansky stressed that his country has never planned any military intervention on Ukrainian territory.
"Russia never planned and will not do this unless Ukraine or any other party pushes us to do so, or if this is a matter of protecting our national sovereignty," Polansky said in an interview with the US "Bloomberg" agency.
Polansky explained that "many threats stem from Ukraine... and do not forget the American warships in the Black Sea... and this is what makes avoiding a direct clash in this sea very difficult," stressing that Russia has the right to mobilize any military forces anywhere within its lands.
Russia's Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov announced earlier today that the United States' plans to supply weapons to Kiev would worsen the situation in southeastern Ukraine.
