"Great news for the residents of the Negev."

The Tamar Dead Sea Regional Council is furious at the decision to divide the revenues from the property taxes of the Dead Sea factories with nine other authorities, on the instructions of Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked.

The division requires the approval of the Minister of Finance.

"A pungent political smell," the council said.

According to the decision made by Shaked, the property tax money, which until now was in the authority of the Tamar Regional Council, will now be divided into nine additional authorities in the southern region, "including authorities considered among the weakest in Israel," the interior minister wrote.

The Tamar Dead Sea Regional Council did not like its decision and said that "unfortunately the Minister of the Interior, in a scandalous, populist and hasty decision, with a pungent political smell, could make the Dead Sea not only the lowest place in the world geographically but also tourist, settlement and industrial."

The distribution rate is about NIS 32 million a year.

"This is an irresponsible move that means a unilateral write-off of about 20% of the council's budget," the council continued. "Those who will pay the price will be citizens of the state (not residents of the council) as in the future the strengthening of settlement in the periphery and the Negev, the development of tourism in the Dead Sea and the promotion of environmental projects in heavy industrial areas in the area will be directly harmed." Apparently intended to divert the fire from other and unpleasant headlines, so it may have come out as a message to the media and only later was given to the council. "

Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked said after the decision that" this is great news for the residents of the Negev. Many authorities will now receive a significant increase in revenue. The money will help reduce the gaps and help the authorities provide better service to their residents. "

The authorities that will benefit from the new division, together with the Tamar Regional Council, are: Arad, Dimona, Yeruham, Ksifa, Arara in the Negev, Neve Midbar, El Kassum, Ramat Negev, and the Middle Arava.

The distribution rate is about NIS 32 million a year.

The Tamar Regional Council will continue to receive property tax revenues from the Dead Sea factories in the amount of NIS 30 million, in addition to income of 5% of the rest of the distribution between the authorities, which amounts to NIS 32 million.

The division requires the approval of the Minister of Finance.
