Within a kilometer of the school, there are an average of 14 points of sale for cigarettes and electronic smoking products, according to a new Israeli study, which maps the location of points of sale that affect the exposure of children and youth to smoking products.
The mapping is done in all schools in Israel - elementary, middle and high schools.
The mapping shows that there were more points of sale around the schools in the neighborhoods of moderate socio-economic status (9.9 points of sale of Aikos on average within a radius of one kilometer), compared with low status (7.5) or high (7.6 points of sale on average).
The study was conducted by Prof. Hagai Levin and Daniel Elbaz from the School of Public Health of the Hebrew University and Hadassah.
"In order to combat smoking among youth in Israel, we must require the licensing of points of sale, ban sales near schools and enforce the ban on sales to minors," said Prof. Hagai Levin.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health sent a warning letter to singer Eyal Golan yesterday, after allegations were made that he posted e-cigarettes on social networks and even distributed the product - in violation of the law.
A response from his office was: "Caribo e-cigarette is not yet on the market and can not be obtained, and despite this Eyal immediately took down all Instagram shares. We are keeping the law and the candle at our feet!".
