The death toll from the human stampede at the Astroworld festival on November 5 in Houston, Texas, rose to nine on Thursday with the death of a young woman who was in a coma, her family reported.
"Bharti Shahani lost the battle due to the horrible injuries she suffered," the relatives of this 22-year-old student from Texas A&M University reported at a press conference, who was in a state of brain death and connected to a respirator that kept alive.

"Once a person fell, people started falling like dominoes. It was like a sinkhole. People fell on top of each other," said Mohit Bellani, Shahani's cousin.
"There were like layers of bodies on the ground, about two people thick. We were struggling to climb to the top and breathe to stay alive," he added.

Another 8 people between 14 and 27 years old died and 25 had to be hospitalized by the human avalanche that occurred during the concert of rapper Travis Scott, one of the stars of the festival.
Among the fatalities are three Latinos: Brianna Rodriguez, 16, Rodolfo Peña;
and Frank Patino, 21.
The organizers of Astroworld did not have any protocol to respond to a stampede like the one that occurred, according to the authorities, despite the fact that in front of the stage about 50,000 people gathered.
